The Farm
What Started as a Dream AT AUBURN UNIVERSITY Became a RealitY

Their dream of owning a farm began when Jim and Gretchen were in school at Auburn University. The countryside around Auburn is filled with lush rolling green pastures and is dotted with cattle farms. In 2001 the dream that began while driving country roads around Auburn became a reality when Gretchen and Jim found an ad in the classified section of the newspaper for a 30 acre farm in Irvington, Alabama.

What began as a registered Brangus seedstock operation has evolved into an all natural beef farm in an effort to bring local beef from the pasture to the dinner plate. Our goal is to run a sustainable all natural farm where the cattle are free to roam in open pastures the way mother nature intended them to be raised. When cattle are raised on pasture and supplemented with free choice feed they can decide what to eat and when to eat it. The end result is all natural beef with moderate to moderately abundant (USDA Choice-Prime) marbling and a great clean beef flavor that you would expect to experience in the finest steakhouses in the US. We are committed to the highest standards of animal welfare and food safety.

People
Gretchen Johnson
Gretchen is the glue that holds Circle G Farms together. She has never met a four legged animal that she does not like and her heart is is big as a Circle G bull.
Jim Johnson
"Boss" is committed to producing a quality Brangus cattle. Jim is constantly studying the beef cattle industry and always trying to implement the best pasture and herd management practices on the farm.
Matt White
Matt is our number one cow poke. He can bite through "Bob-wire" with his teeth and wrestle a grown bull to the ground with his right hand tied behind his back.

Jimmie Simmons
Jimmie has “been messin’ with cows” (as he puts it) around here for a long time. The steers that end up in our beef production program start their lives down the road at Jimmie’s farm. He births them and takes care of them while they are on momma’s milk.

“Raised Naturally”
The USDA is considering approval of the claim “Raised Naturally” for animals that are raised without the use of antibiotics, growth hormones, and animal by-products. Although the term “All Natural” is already in use it simply means “minimally processed” and thus virtually all raw meat products already qualify for the “All Natural” claim.
